Mia’s Story

The birth of the Glookie Foundation began with a joyful liitle girl named Mia. Mia was enjoying a family vacation in the beautiful islands of Hawaii when everything changed. Mia seemed to be losing weight even though her apetite was good. She was constantly thirsty and something about her seemed to be off. Mia’s mom took her to Urgent Care where she was sent to the local Emergency Room and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She was life flighted to the Pediatric Ward at Honolulu hospital where she stayed for several days while she and her family learned about Type 1 diabetes. The diagnosis marked the beginning of a new journey—one filled with both challenges and triumphs for Mia and her loved ones.

Among those impacted was her grandmother, who quickly saw the emotional and financial strain some families face when trying to manage this lifelong condition. From the cost of medical supplies and insulin to the overwhelming burden of mental health care, she recognized a gap that too many families fall through.

This is where Glookie Foundation was born. Our mission is to support children with Type 1 Diabetes by helping families with limited resources access the up-to-date medical equipment and supplies they need—especially those not covered by insurance or financially out of reach. We believe every child deserves a chance to grow up healthy, happy, and stress-free.
